Renovation and expansion museum Paleis Het Loo

Apeldoorn, the Netherlands

Museum Paleis Het Loo is one of the most popular museums in the Netherlands. Due to changing wants and needs as well as necessary maintenance, it is time for innovation, refurbishment and improvement. The former Royal Palace in Apeldoorn has been closed for three years since 2018 for an impressive renovation operation, in which the strength and beauty of the palace will remain intact.

For the major renovation and expansion, the museum has surrounded itself with specialists and advisors. The plans for the renovated Paleis Het Loo include considerable attention to sustainability. The plans have been designed according to the BIM method. The client and the project team are striving to obtain the BREEAM Excellent certificate for sustainability.

During the renovation and expansion, the museum remains open but with a special programme and limited options for visitors. Additionally, visitors can see the construction activities for the new museum section from the palace roof. “By involving visitors in the construction of the new museum section in this way, we create extra added value. It offers a very unique and special insight into a large-scale construction project,” says Eddy van Caulil from Lievense.

The renovated and improved palace will be ready in 2021.
